HYDERABAD: Sports minister V Srinivas Goud has informed the Union minister of youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju about the steps being taken by the Telangana government for the development of sports at the grass-root level in the state.
During a video conference held with sports ministers and senior officials of 18 states and Union Territories on Tuesday, Srinivas Goud explained to Rijiju about the proposed sports policy of the Telangana government.
“A three-member cabinet sub-committee was also set up to formulate the Telangana sports policy as per the directions of chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” Goud said.
He also informed him about the 2% quota being given to the sportspersons in job recruitment and 0.5% in the educational institutions of the state. He said the state government had sent Rs 218.67-crore worth proposals to the Union government for the development of sports infrastructure.
He said that the funds would be used for laying synthetic track, football turf, construction of swimming pool and multi-purpose sports facility and requested Rijiju to sanction the amount at the earliest.
