And upon further consideration. …
After informing the West Jersey Football League it would not be playing football this year, Trenton High has reversed its decision and will now compete in all sports for the upcoming season.
This comes on the heels of New Egypt announcing last week that it has also reconsidered and will play football after initially informing the WJFL it would not.
As it stands now, this means West Windsor is currently the only local team that will not be playing football this fall. The WJFL’s deadline for any other school to pull out is this upcoming Tuesday.
“I’ve been told we are good to go,” said Trenton coach Greg Hyslop. “We had a conference call earlier in the week with parents, the players and our school’s administration. We talked about how some teams have been working out for two months and the NJSIAA’s plan (for football) seems to be going well.
“We anticipate getting final approval (from the school board) this upcoming week and start practice on Sept. 14. We have some catching up to do, but the players are anxious to get to work.”
Trenton hopes to play a six-game regular season schedule. It is scheduled to open against West Windsor and hopefully a replacement can be found should West Windsor stand by its decision to sit out the football season.
