Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer took to social media to point out that the umpires in tonight’s match between India and New Zealand are Richard Kettleborough and Marais Erasmus.
Kettleborough has been involved in some of India’s most heartbreaking defeats in the ICC events that have taken place in the last few years. He was the umpire when India lost the T20 World Cup final in 2014 to Sri Lanka, the 2015 ODI World Cup semifinal loss to Australia, the 2016 T20 World Cup semifinal loss to West Indies, the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final loss to Pakistan, and finally the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand.
Referring to these events, Jaffer posted a meme on social media, indicating that the Indian fans will be in for another night filled with heartbreak. Tweeting a picture of two kids crying, Jaffer wrote: “Happy Halloween Indian Fans #INDvNZ #T20WorldCup.”

The match between India and New Zealand on Sunday could well spell doom for one of the teams. Both teams lost to Pakistan in their opening match and barring an upset from the other teams in the group, tonight’s clash could well decide which team makes it out of the group stage.
Virat Kohli and co. will be looking to get their team combination right for the game, something that came under the scanner during their previous match against their arch-rivals. As for the Kiwis, the loss to Pakistan exposed their lack of power-hitters in the death overs.
The two teams will meet at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as part of a Group 1 match in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
