Three new deaths from COVID-19 were reported statewide Sunday, with no deaths in the Mahoning Valley.
The Ohio Department of Health reported Sunday the state had a total of 130,558 cases, with an increase of 973 cases since Saturday, leading to 4,259 deaths and 13,841 hospitalizations, which was an increase of 33 hospitalizations.
Mahoning County added seven new cases overnight for a total of 2,895 since the pandemic began, with 459 hospitalizations and 272 deaths.
One new case was reported in Columbiana County for a total of 1,867, with 212 hospitalizations and 68 deaths.
Trumbull County had one new case for a total of 1,778 with 331 hospitalizations and 125 deaths.
The coronavirus pandemic will mark its six month this week with Gov. Mike DeWine’s next press conference on the state’s fight against the virus tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
The governor opened last Thursday’s press conference talking about how it marked six months since the decision to cancel spectators attending the Arnold Sports Festival.
DeWine urged Ohioans to be careful during any Labor Day festivities. White House officials expressed concern about spread of the virus during the holiday weekend as well.
“What we do this weekend will really determine what our fall is going to look like,” DeWine said.
The governor said health officials are reporting a sharp rise in cases among the 18- to 22-year-old age group as colleges are back in session. He said the concern isn’t about those students getting very sick, but their ability to spread the disease.
DeWine also reported last week officials are issuing an order for K-12 schools that them schools to notify parents and the public about positive COVID-19 tests. It begins Tuesday. It also creates a weekly reporting system that was announced last week.
