WFXR Sports Director Jermaine Ferrell sits down with sports radio talk show host CJ Silas. Silas hosts The CJ Silas Show on Wednesday nights at 8pm ET / 5pm PT on ESPN Radio 1280AM and FM 101.7 The Ticket in Arroyo Grande, CA. Silas was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She went to both USC and Syracuse University, graduating from SU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She spent two season doing minor league baseball Stadium Announcing for the Toronto Blue Jays Triple A team and the New York Yankees Double A team. Before she could even walk the aisle to accept her diploma from Syracuse she was working full time at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut. She left the East Coast to return west to do some field producing and voice over work for ESPN Sunday night Baseball and ‘Talk2’ with Jim Rome on ESPN2. Silas later spent eight months covering the OJ Simpson Trial at the Los Angeles courthouse everyday. In 1996, she traveled to Seattle to work on her first sports talk show.

She left the Pacific Northwest and headed back East for a night talk show all her own. That landed her a full time gig with CBS SportsLine radio in Fort Lauderdale. She was too far from home and headed back to Seattle to do weekends at KJR Sports Radio and a morning show on KJR-FM. It wasn’t home enough so she went south to the Central Coast of California where she first volunteered for the American Red Cross (ARC) during the Hurricane Katrina and Rita recovery efforts in Louisiana. Most recently Silas worked as a fill-in talk show host for ESPN Radio at the national level, also doing an afternoon show on a local ESPN Radio affiliate. She has spent the last fifteen seasons as the Public Address Announcer for the Cal Poly men’s baseball team while continuing her volunteer work for the ARC. She is now the Radio and TV play-by-play voice for Allan Hancock College Football. CJ writes, hikes, runs, does Crossfit and plays roller derby with CAL SK8 Roller Derby while living on the Central Coast of California with her dog Independence Day, ‘Inde.’
