WARREN, Ohio – Wheeling University’s Emily Holzopfel posted a 15-over-par, 159 on Tuesday and leads the Mountain East Conference Golf Tournament after two rounds.

Holzopfel holds a five-shot lead over Davis & Elkins’ Lucrezia Speranza heading into Wednesday’s final round.

Wheeling also leads the team standings (668) with a six-shot lead over Glenville State. West Liberty’s Kailey Pettit (165) is tied for third and teammate Alexis Ramby is 12th at 170.

MEN’S GOLF

WARREN, Ohio – West Liberty freshman and Wheeling Park alum Noah Seivertson finished Round 2 of the MEC Tournament in fourth place with a 150, while teammate Alex Easthom is fifth with a 151 heading into today’s final round.

West Liberty is second as a team with a 619 behind Charleston who leads with a 601.

VOLLEYBALL

CONNORVILLE — The Shadyside Tigers stayed hot with another victory against Buckeye Local by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17.

The Tigers were led by junior dandy Gentry Brown, who had 14 kills, six digs and two blocks. Paige Gorby had six kills, four digs and five aces. Senior Caroline Mercer posted 24 assists, three digs and two kills. Macy Hendershot had seven kills and four blocks.

The Panthers were led by Kassidy George’s 11 digs and Samantha Ankrom’s 10 digs. Madison Wroski had four blocks. Abby Berze had two kills and five digs.

Barnesville topples Bellaire

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks continued their hot play with what they hope will result in a berth in the OVAC Tournament. Their latest victory came in a sweep of Bellaire by scores of 25-7, 25-18 and 25-16.

The Shamrocks were led by Halle Markovich, who had 16 kills, 12 points, two aces and five blocks. Ava McFarland had 27 assists, five digs and nine points. Ellie Thompson had eight kills and three blocks. Kynlie Cline had 12 digs and nine points. Darby Jones had eight digs, while Jalyn Skinner posted seven digs.

Bellaire received 13 kills, two aces and 10 digs from Allie Ault, while Ava Marinacci had 18 assists and two aces. Gianna Schmidt had four kills and 10 digs. Zara Harveth had nine digs and a block.

East Liverpool sweeps

Harrison Central

CADIZ — The Potters needed just three games to finish off a victory against Harrison Central on Tuesday. East Liverpool won by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-16.

Fueling the Huskies was senior McKayla Dunkle, who had nine kills and two blocks. Logan Johnson had seven points and 15 assists. Maddy Butler had 17 digs.

Wheeling Central upends

Martins Ferry

MARTINS FERRY — The invading Maroon Knights picked up a three-set win over the Purple Riders by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-18.

The Purple Riders received eight kills, 14 digs and two aces from sophomore Sydney Koller. Hannah Meeker had three kills, two blocks and 11 assists. Lindsay Best posted eight digs and three blocks.

Monroe Central topples Frontier

BEAVERTON — The invading Seminoles picked up their 12th win in 18 outings Tuesday by virtue of a 25-21, 26-24 and 25-17 victory against the Cougars.

Monroe was paced by Trista Morris, who had five kills and six digs. Kynzi Bishop had five kills and Abby Thompson added four kills and two blocks. Kalista Friday had 10 digs and three aces. Haylyn Hiles had four blocks, while Regan Hamilton had seven assists. Olivia Valkovic added six assists and two aces.
