Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organisation, has announced overnight that rapid testing is on the way for millions of people in low and middle-income countries.

Rapid testing could also be valuable in developed countries, helping detect new outbreaks before they get out of hand.
