A wildfire raging on Spain’s vacation island of Tenerife amid unseasonably scorching temperatures pressured the evacuation on Wednesday of round 3,000 individuals from their properties, native officers stated.

Firefighters backed by six water-dropping helicopters had been battling the blaze which broke out on Wednesday afternoon in an space of steep ravines within the northeast of the island that was badly ravaged by an enormous wildfire in August, the regional authorities of Tenerife stated.

Some 2,400 individuals had been evacuated from the city of Santa Ursula, and one other 600 from La Orotava, as a precaution, Lope Afonso, the vice chairman of the regional authorities of Tenerife wrote on Facebook.

Television photos and movies posted on social media confirmed smoke rising from a hill near homes in a distant neighbourhood and helicopters dropping water on flames.

Popular vacationer areas on Tenerife, a part of the Canaries archipelago within the Atlantic Ocean, have to this point been unaffected and its two airports have been working usually.

The seat of the fireplace “has been stabilised, we are seeing how it evolves to determine if in a few hours residents can return to their homes,” Blanca Perez, the island’s councillor in command of emergencies, instructed native radio.
