RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Alyssa Sauro posted a winning time of 18 minutes and 32 seconds here Saturday at the 50th Patty Forgey Invite to help lead Williamstown to a 55-81 victory against Cabell Midland.

Sauro was joined in the top 15 by teammates Brianna Winsett (9th, 20:42) and Reagan Ortiz (15th, 21:27). Also scoring for WHS head coach Mike Taylor were Lexi Wynn (20th, 21:42) and Ava Lightfritz (24th, 21:57).

“Right now we’re competing at a level when we get somewhere we expect to be one of the top teams if everybody is racing well, which we did today,” said coach Taylor. “We think we can win about any meet we go to right at the moment, and so far we are proving that. Next week we are going to Pickerington. Some of the coaches said we will have better competition and we’re ready for a challenge.”

St. Marys, which was led by the fourth-place showing of Virginia Haddox (20:25), finished in third place with 98 points. Blue Devil Erica Davis was 14th place with a time of 21:24, which was 10 ticks slower than Marietta’s Ava Gebczyk, who was 13th.

Waterford’s Avery Schwendeman just missed out on the top 15 and had to settle for 17th after crossing in 21 minutes and 35 seconds.

Also scoring for SMHS were Natalie Bartrug (28th, 22:32), Josey Moore (31st, 22:26) and Jaela Davis (46th, 22:53).

“Ava had a tremendous day. She was only 15 seconds behind Lexi and that’s definitely making our team better,” admitted coach Taylor, who added “the boys did well. (Coach) Cliff (Taylor) had those guys running well and they finished second behind Cabell Midland. It was a good day for our program. We had three guys finish in the top 15.”

Leading the charge for Cliff Taylor’s squad were Zach Cannon (11th, 17:28), Julian Johnson (14th, 17:46) and Chase Trembly (15th, 17:52) with Will Coiner (24th, 18:31) and Dawson Winsett (25th, 18:36) also factoring into the scoring.

The Yellowjackets finished with 76 points, which was 20 behind the Knights.

Marietta got a third-place effort from Ezra Minard (16:59) as the Tigers placed fourth as a team with 184 points.

Eastern’s Brayden Obrien was runner-up after clocking in at 16 minutes and 57 seconds. Eagle teammate Connor Nolan was ninth (17:15). Warren’s Bryson Angelo posted a 17:16, which was good for 10th. Nick Diaz led Belpre by finishing 21st with a time of 18:21.

Marietta’s other scorers were Kasy Science (34th, 18:56), Isaac Lough (37th, 19:00), Maxwell McCabe (69th, 20:13) and Evan Masselli (73rd, 20:19).
