Postponement will last 2 weeks
After less than a week of holding competitions, Winona High School has to pump the brakes on high school sports due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Winhawks’ activities director Casey Indra confirmed that the school’s events and practices starting this Friday will be postponed for two weeks, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Winona County.
“We are postponing our events and practices for two weeks starting on Friday,” Indra said via email. “With the County numbers on the rise, we want to protect our athletes as best as we can. Even though my heart breaks to see them miss games, this is what is needed at this time. Our coaches and advisers will continue to have virtual contact with our students with the focus on their social and emotional well being.”
Winona will still hold their scheduled events on Thursday.
News 8 Now Sports has also been told Cotter High School is also planning on holding games Thursday night, but nothing has been decided yet about next week.
