A woman was allegedly gang raped at a party in Hyderabad’s tech district after she was drugged. Reports say the incident took place in the Kukatpally area of the city that houses many Information Technology (IT) companies.
The rape survivor reportedly told the police that she had gone for a party at Kukatpally from her Jubilee Hills residence, where she met some friends who had come for the birthday celebrations of a common friend.
She was then offered a piece of cake by some people at the party which she consumed and fell unconscious. She has reportedly told the police that the cake was laced with sedative drugs.
After she lost consciousness she was sexually abused by some people at the party. The accused threatened the victim not to reveal anything to anyone. The incident came to light when the victim fell sick and was taken to hospital. There she succumbed to pressure and narrated the incident to her parents.
She along with her parents lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police station.
Later the case was transferred to the Kukatpally police station as the scene of the crime fell under this area. The accused are still at large.
Rising Cases of Crimes Against Women
There are rising reports of rapes and sexual assaults against women. India’s crime bureau data reports a woman is raped every 15 minutes. Recently the Hathras rape case captured national headlines. However that’s not an exception. Hyderabad itself was at the centre of some brutal rape cases recently where a 26 year was raped and burnt. In Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, there have been rampant cases of rapes of minor girls.
Women ask every single day, what is India doing for its daughters? What will it take in a country like India to put a stop to rape cases and create a safe environment for women to be free?
