Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday inaugurated an air-conditioned indoor swimming pool at Delhi Sports School in Civil Lines in north Delhi and mentioned the development of Delhi authorities’s 80-acre sports activities college in Mundka can be accomplished inside three years.

Kejriwal mentioned that the brand new college will supply coaching to 2,500 college students throughout 20 Olympic sports activities and would take round three years to be useful.

Currently, 172 college students are being educated in 10 Olympic sports activities reminiscent of weightlifting, and boxing, on the Delhi Sports School, which was established in 2023. He added that after the college is absolutely operational, it could present coaching to college students in as much as 20 Olympic sports activities. Currently, the house in Mundka hosts the workplace of the college.

If that talent is supported, we can defeat any country in the world in competition… Behind the establishment of Delhi Sports University, we have a very big vision. This university is being built in Mundka on about 80 acres of land, where 2500 students will be enrolled. It may take about three years for the university to be established. For now, Delhi Sports School has been established, and training in 10 Olympic sports is being provided here,” Kejriwal mentioned.

The Delhi Sports University is a recognised state college, established by means of an Act of the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 2020.

Karnam Malleswari, the primary girl Olympic medalist of India, was appointed the vice-chancellor of the college.

The absolutely residential Delhi Sports School at Sham Nath Marg in Civil Lines has been arrange as an incubator to establish and nurture expertise from an early age, officers mentioned and was designated as one of many Schools of Specialised Excellence, with courses from 6 to 12.
