New Delhi: Samajwadi Party MP and veteran actor Jaya Bachchan has slammed actor-politician Ravi Kishan who said in parliament on Monday that drug addiction is in the film industry too, saying that the industry is being “vilified on social media”.
“People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that govt tells such people not to use this kind of language, ” MP Jaya Bachchan said in the Rajya Sabha today, referring to the BJP MP’s statement in Lok Sabha.
Just because there are some people, you can’t tarnish the image of the entire industry. I am ashamed that yesterday one of our members in Lok Sabha, who is from the film industry, spoke against it. It is a shame, she added.
Popular Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan and a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh on Monday raised drug issue related to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajputs death investigation.
“Drug addiction is in the film industry too. Several people have been apprehended. The NCB has been doing very good work. I urge the central government to take strict action against the culprits soon. Give them a befitting punishment and bring an end to this conspiracy by neighbouring countries,” Ravi Kishan said in the Lok Sabha.
Bachchan said the government must stand by the entertainment industry. “Entertainment Industry is so important. But so many people who have made a name from this industry are today calling it a gutter. The industry is being villified on social media. Some of the people in the industry are among the highest taxpayers of the country. The government must stand by the entertainment industry,” she said.
