Dehradun: In a bid to upgrade the education and sports facilities in the state, Uttarakhand education and sports minister Arvind Pandey made a slew of announcements on Monday.
The minister said that the state has identified 174 government schools that will be turned into Atal Adarsh Schools. “The proposal has been approved by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Among these, 108 schools already have the facility of virtual classes,” said Pandey.
The Atal Adarsh Schools are going to be English-medium schools.
They will be developed to provide quality education to the students of remote hilly areas. All 95 blocks of Uttarakhand are going to have two Atal Adarsh Schools each, the minister said.
He also announced that sports enthusiasts, former players, and coaches can give their suggestions for the formulation of a Sports Policy up to October 10. Apart from this, Pandey also announced that the state is soon going to have a Centre for Sports Science. The minister said, “There will be an increase in job opportunities for athletes under sports quota. Also, provisions will be made to encourage more women to take up sports in Uttarakhand. We will be making arrangements for free travel in Uttarakhand buses for the athletes to participate in sports events. Also, the CM has asked us to ensure that scholarships are given to talented children to encourage them right from the start.” It was also announced that the state’s prestigious event “Khel Mahakumbh” is going to feature more sports from the next edition.
