India witnessed a sharp rise in its daily Covid graph as the country logged 18,454 fresh cases, which is 26% higher than yesterday. Over 1 billion vaccine doses have been administered in India, making a significant milestone for the country.

Here are the top 10 updates on coronavirus in India:

  1. India achieved the 100 crore vaccinations milestone this morning. Hailing the vaccination milestone as a triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the country has scripted history.

  2. According to the government, around three-quarters of adults in the country of 1.3 billion people have had one shot and around 30 percent are fully vaccinated. The government wants all of India’s 944 million adults to get vaccinated this year.

  3. The majority of India’s daily Covid infections were reported from Kerala.The southern state added 11,150 fresh Covid cases and 82 deaths, taking the caseload to 48,79,790 and the total fatalities to 27,084. The number of people who recovered from the infection since Wednesday was 8,592, which brought the total recoveries to 47,69,373 and the number of active cases to 83,333.

  4. Maharashtra reported 1,825 new positive cases and 21 fatalities while 2,476 patients were discharged. The new infections pushed the state’s COVID-19 tally to 65,96,645. Overall, 1,39,886 people have died due to the virus in the state.

  5. The daily rise in new coronavirus infections in India has been below 30,000 for 27 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 116 consecutive days now.

  6. The recovery rate is currently at 98.15% per cent, the highest since March last year. At least 17,561 people have recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of people who have recovered is 3,34,95,808.

  7. Active cases account for less than one per cent of total cases, currently at 0.52 per cent. The active caseload stands at 1,78,831.

  8. The weekly positivity rate of 1.34 per cent is less than three per cent for last 118 days. Daily positivity rate of 1.48 per cent is less than three per cent for the last 52 days.

  9. Some 160 people have died of Covid in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of virus-linked fatalities to 4,52,811.

  10. The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities. “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
