Division II, Region 5

6-Austintown Fitch (7-3) at 3-Akron

Archbishop Hoban (7-3)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Dowed Field

Winner plays: Winner of 2-Macedonia Nordonia/7-Willoughbby South

The Skinny: Both teams enter Friday’s contest with a record of 7-3, but the Knights are coming off a 49-0 shutout victory over Eastlake North and the Falcons just held off Warren G. Harding in a 35-28 shootout on their home field. But, the Falcons are hitting their peak at the right time with four straight wins, including two straight over Harding. That being said, tonight’s contest could come down to Fitch’s defense. They’ve allowed 28 or more points in three of their last four games and the Knights have outscored their opponents 326-187 this season. Look for Devin Sherwood and the Fitch offense to find the end zone early and often as they try to build a lead.

Division III, Region 9

5-Hubbard (10-1) at 4-Canfield (10-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Bob Dove Field

Winner plays: Winner of 1-Chardon/8-Streetsboro

The Skinny: Two teams that focus their play around the abilities of one player. For Hubbard, it’s T.C. Caffey who’s entered the OHSAA records books for single-season touchdowns and yards this season. On the other sideline, junior quarterback Broc Lowry has paced the Cardinals with his arm and his legs, but Canfield has also played solid defense this season and have only allowed one opponent to score more than 16 points. This one will come down to what team can stop the others offense.

9-Poland Seminary (8-3) at 1-West Branch (11-0)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Clinton Heacock Stadium

Winner plays: Winner of 12-Girard/4-Perry

The Skinny: Another local matchup with two talented quarterbacks who have plenty of weapons at their disposal. Junior Dru DeShields has put up record breaking numbers this year, passing for 2,900 yards and 33 touchdowns while rushing for 889 yards and 14 touchdowns. Steven Marra has shared the backfield with him, rushing for 1,086 yards and 26 touchdowns. Nick Wilson has also been DeShields’ favorite target, catching 64 passes for 1,054 yards. The opportunties for the Warriors are endless and the Bulldogs will have a major challenge on their hands to keep the top-ranked team out of the end zone. Poland has a special quarterback of their own in senior Jack Fulton who has thrown and passed for 1,000 yards this season and is looking to build upon those numbers on Friday.

12-Girard (7-4) at 4-Perry (9-2)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Alumni Stadium

Winner plays: Winner of 9-Poland Seminary/1-West Branch

The Skinny: After losing three straight to South Range, Poland, and Hubbard, the Indians have hit their stride as of late with three straight victories and have scored 31 or more points in each week. Juniors Mike Palmer and Nic Bengala have been a key piece of their success. Taking over for an injured Triston Valley, Bengala has passed for 903 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 518 yards and nine touchdowns. He accounted for four touchdowns in Girard’s first round playoff win. Palmer has rushed for 1,089 yards and 14 touchdowns this season while Dom Malito has also played a crucial role, rushing for 319 yards and four touchdowns while catching 30 passes for 435 yards and three touchdowns as well. The Pirates have only allowed 90 total points all season long though and have won their past four games while only allowing 13 points so the Indians will have to find a way into the end zone if they want to come away with a victory.

6-Salem (8-3) at 3-Ursuline (7-3)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Youngstown State’s Stambaugh Stadium

Winner plays: 2-Villa Angela-St. John/7-Cleveland Glenville

The Skinny: Salem and Ursuline come together in what could be a high-scoring matchup between two teams that are known to light up the scoreboard. The Fighting Irish have scored 43 or more points in their last three games and have topped that mark in each of their wins this season, including a season-high 62 points in their season opening win over Bishop Hartley. Senior quarterback Brady Shannon and junior DeMarcus McElroy have led the way for the Fighting Irish as Shannon is now Urusline’s all-time leader in career passing yards and touchdowns, while McElroy entered the playoffs with over 1,200 yards rushing and 23 touchdowns. Salem’s offense has been just as dangerous with junior quarterback Jackson Johnson at the helm. He’s thrown for 2,583 yards and 32 touchdowns this season while also running for 1,057 yards and 16 touchdowns. Blaize Exline has been a big piece as well, catching 92 passes for 1,169 yards and 16 touchdowns.
