Noida: Three sectors near the proposed Jewar international airport are all set to get a major sports push.
While the Noida Authority will soon start construction at a new golf course in Sector 151, a mega sports city is being developed encompassing the adjacent sectors 150 and 152. Once complete, the sports city would enable India to make a serious bid for international events like the Olympics.
Officials said the golf course in Sector 151 will be the second such facility, after the existing one in Sector 37. A full-service golf course, construction at the site is expected to start in September.
“We had floated tenders earlier, and have so far received seven responses. Construction work will start soon. There was a need for a new golf course as the existing one is not able to accommodate the demand of residents. This new one will be accessible from the expressway,” Authority’s GM Rajeev Tyagi told TOI.
Adjacent to Sector 151A, according to officials, a mega sports city is being developed across sectors 150 and 152 by private developers. Sector 150 will be the first sector of Noida, once Jewar airport becomes operational.
“Some 80% of Sector 150 will be green. It is being developed as a mega sports city. The land allotment condition was based on its sports-centric development, so the builders will be offering sports-centric housing. The sector is going to be one of the least dense as well,” said Gaurav Pandey, business head (north zone), Godrej Properties.
“We have plans for a 9-hole golf course, a tennis court, a cricket pitch, a skating rink, swimming pools, gyms, and a squash court at our three projects in the sector,” he added.
Udaiveer Anand, director of ATS Infrastructure, another builder, said, “There is a huge line up of sporting activities. We are building an Olympic-size swimming pool, a football ground, a small golf course, a multi-sports playfield, and international cricket stadium in these sectors.”
“Noida Authority has dedicated 80% of Sector 150 for green development. This is coming up as the first planned green sector. Some 10,000 people will move here in the next 2.5-3 years and around 20,000 people are expected to move in over the next five years,” he added.
