National Trail Mix Day Some call it gorp, but it’s the day to honor and/or make some healthy snacks to take along on hikes. Dried fruit, granola, nuts or anything with carbs, energy and healthy fats fit the bill. According to https://nationaldaycalendar.com/national-trail-mix-day-august-31, two California surfer dudes claim to have invented it in the 1960s, but the site adds that trail mix was used in a 1958 novel “The Dharma Bums” written by Jack Kerouac.
