JOHOR BARU: Fifty one individuals were slapped with a RM1,000 compound each for not observing social distancing at an entertainment outlet here on Thursday (Sept 10).

Johor narcotics crime investigation department head Asst Comm Mohd Afzanizam Yahaya said the individuals, aged between 18 and 55 years, were fined during an operation at the outlet at around 2.30am.

He said the police also detained a local man, 26, who claimed to be the manager for the outlet for operating the outlet beyond the permissible operating hours under the recovery movement control order (MCO).

“Initial investigation showed 12 local men and five local women tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine,” ACP Afzaninam said in a statement.

He also said two Vietnamese women who were detained during the operations were also tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine.

ACP Afzanizam added the two foreigners would also be investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for overstaying in the country.

He said the individuals would be remanded starting from Friday (Sept 11) to assist with the investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963.

The case is being investigated under Regulations 11 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) 2020, Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 11(2) of the Johor Enactment and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963.
