•With a 40-22 win over Columbus South on Oct. 9, the Eastmoor Academy football team moved to 3-0 in the City League-South Division.
The Warriors are 4-3 overall and remain on track for a playoff berth in Division III, Region 11. They play Walnut Ridge on Oct. 15 and then take on Africentric, which is 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the league, in their regular-season finale Oct. 21 at home.
Against South, senior quarterback Devin Lloyd threw for 104 yards and three touchdowns and senior running back Zyreek Brunner rushed four times for 65 yards and two scores. Brunner’s 44-yard touchdown with 1:27 left in the third quarter gave Eastmoor a 26-14 lead.
The Warriors gave up 156 yards rushing to Tyreese Ford but benefited from the Bulldogs committing 11 penalties.

•In the 17-team Les Eisenhart Invitational on Oct. 9 at Thomas Worthington, the Watterson boys cross country team finished seventh (229) behind champion Lancaster (64) to lead all non-Division I programs.
The Eagles, who were 17th in the Division II state meet last season, were led at the Eisenhart by seniors Max Latshaw and Cris Kubatko, who were seventh (16:20.63) and 10th (16:27.88), respectively. Senior David Druhan and junior Finn Kephart also are returnees who have been among the key runners, with freshmen Will Fitzpatrick, Jack Leonard and Tad White also contributing.
The CCL meet is Oct. 16 at Three Creeks Metro Park. DeSales scored 44 points to edge the Eagles (45) and St. Charles (56) for last year’s title.

•Steven Miller (15:56.33) and Ryan Smith (15:58.67) of the Worthington Kilbourne boys cross country team finished second and third, respectively, out of 153 runners in the Les Eisenhart Invitational on Oct. 9 at Thomas Worthington.
The Wolves scored 102 points to finish third of 17 teams behind champion Lancaster (64).
Luke Miller (16:26.86) was ninth for Kilbourne and Owen Hedberg (16:35.34) and Benjamin Smith (16:36.32) were 14th and 15th, respectively, to lead the host Cardinals (122), who finished fifth.

•The Hilliard Davidson boys cross country team is gearing up for what it hopes is another strong postseason.
The Wildcats will compete in the OCC-Central meet Oct. 16 at Olentangy Berlin in preparation for the Division I district meet Oct. 23 at Hilliard Darby.
“(Our team) has been slowly building for the (championship) season with wins at the Michigan State Playmaker Invitational (on Sept. 17) and the McQuaid Invitational (in Rochester, New York, on Oct. 2),” coach Pat Schlecht said. “Connor Ackley was the race champion at the McQuaid Invitational, establishing a course record (of 14 minutes, 44.3 seconds).”
The Davidson boys are seeded first in the district.

•The Bexley boys soccer team clinched its first league championship since winning three consecutive MSL-Ohio titles from 2013-15.
The Lions earned the MSL-Ohio title with a 4-2 victory at Grandview on Oct. 11 to improve to 8-3-3 overall and finish 5-0-1 in the league, ahead of runner-up Wellington (5-1). Sam Powers scored twice and Nick Eddy and Ethan Nguyen each scored once.
Bexley is the top seed in the Division II district tournament and opens Oct. 20 at home against 13th-seeded Amanda-Clearcreek or 20th-seeded Horizon Science in the second round.

•The Columbus West boys soccer team will play host to Northland at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 in the City League championship game.
With a 6-1 win over Columbus South on Oct. 4, the Cowboys finished first (5-0) in the City-South. They were 8-1 overall heading into their game Oct. 12 at Centennial.
Sharmarke Abdi (11 goals, 2 assists) and Erasmo Guzman (8 goals, 8 assists) lead the Cowboys in scoring.
Last season, Northland beat Mifflin 3-1 to win the City tournament after City programs opted out of the OHSAA postseason and played a league-only schedule.
