First day of 2020-21 school year will be Sept. 8 after Rockford Public Schools experiences internet system failure
ROCKFORD — After a technology outage on Friday, more than 28,000 Rockford students planning to return to school Wednesday are getting another week of summer break.
Rockford Public Schools announced Sunday afternoon that it’s going to postpone its first day of the 2020-21 school year until Sept. 8.
According to the district, “Administrators are concerned about rushing the first day without the appropriate training and preparation for staff in an unprecedented school year that relies on both in-person and remote instruction. Because of that, we made the difficult decision to delay the start of school until after Labor Day.”
