MUMBAI, India – First, you see a aircraft careening on its aspect, in opposition to a deep blue sky. Then it disappears behind buildings. And then you definately hear the crash.

This was a home flight by a Nepali service, Yeti Airlines. The twin-engine ATR 72 plane took off early Sunday from Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, and crashed around 11am local time in Pokhara – a well-liked vacationer city in central Nepal that is often called a gateway to the Annapurna Circuit, a Himalayan climbing route.

Officials say the passengers included 15 foreigners, two infants and 4 crew members.

Last spring, a aircraft operated by the Nepali airline Tara Air crashed after taking off from Pokhara, killing all 22 people on board. Before that, the nation’s deadliest crash was in March 2018, when a flight from neighboring Bangladesh crashed on touchdown in Kathmandu, killing 51 of the 71 folks on board.

Authorities had just inaugurated a new airport in Pokhara earlier this month, and have been within the strategy of shifting flights over to the brand new facility.
