Houston retailer Academy Sports and Outdoors on Thursday stated CEO Ken Hicks will step apart June 1 as the remainder of the management group is also shuffled.

Chief Merchandising Officer Steven Lawrence will take over the chief govt put up from Hicks, who has served as chairman, president and CEO since May 2018. Hicks will stay board chair. Current Chief Financial Officer Michael Mullican will grow to be president, and Samuel Johnson, govt vp of retail operations, will tackle decisionmaking for retailer actual property, development and design now dealt with by Mullican.

Lawrence, who joined Academy in February 2019, would be the 85-year-old firm’s seventh CEO. Mullican, who joined the corporate in January 2018, led the corporate’s IPO and debt refinancing in 2020.

“It has been an enormous privilege leading Academy as CEO over the past five years,” Hicks stated in an organization assertion issued Thursday. “Having known Academy since I was growing up in Houston, this has been a dream job that has allowed me to fill my passion for retail and connect with our team members and customers.”
