Air india Express aircraft crashes&nbsp

New Delhi: Air India Express aircraft from Dubai to Kozhikode with 191 onboard crashed after overshooting the runway and going into the valley after landing at Karipur Airport. Fire tenders and ambulances have been rushed to the spot. The mishap took place at about 7.10 pm and the aircraft broke into two parts. According to initial reports, the pilot of the aircraft died in the mishap.

“Dubai-Kozhikode Air India flight (IX-1344) skidded during landing at Karipur Airport at around 7.45 pm today,” Kondotty Police told news agency ANI. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a detailed inquiry into the matter. 

There were total 184 passengers, including 10 infants and 6 crew members, including two pilots, onboard Dubai-Kozhikode Air India flight (IX-1344) that skidded during landing at Karipur Airport today: Air India Express

  • It is believed that heavy rains in Kerala could be one of the reasons behind the mishap. Local MLA told reporters that the aircraft fell 35 feet from the hilltop runway.
  • Sources told Times Now that the rescue operations are currently underway and 15 ambulances have taken the injured to the nearby hospitals. Sources say that since it was a tabletop runaway and the landing was difficult. It is learnt that the A737 Boeing aircraft has not caught fire. 
  • “Second tragedy of the day in Kerala: Air India Express skids off the runway at Kozhikode, front portion splits, the pilot dies and lots of passengers injured. All passengers evacuated. Very lucky the aircraft didn’t catch fire,” said KJ Alphons, former Minister of State for Tourism, and Rajya Sabha MP.
  • While no official report has been received about the casualty count or the injuries, it is learnt that there were 177 passengers in total, including 10 children.
