RedRecords, a partnership between low-cost airline AirAsia and Universal Music Group, has launched its first song.

Written by Canadian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez and performed by Thai-German singer-actress Jannine Weigel, the dance-pop single “Passcode” was released on Friday and is available on major streaming services.

The colorful music video, directed by Philip Rom Kulleh, was also released on the same day. It features some of the biggest Malaysian and Thailand’s TikTok stars.

Weigel is the first signed artist by RedRecords. Launched in December 2019, the label is said to be devoted to discovering and grooming new talents in Southeast Asia.

“The idea is to use the marketing power of AirAsia to find talents in Southeast Asia, make great music and help them break into the global market,” Fernandes said at the launch in Kuala Lumpur.

Before joining the airline industry in 2001, Fernandes was a Warner Music executive in Malaysia.

Weigel gained recognition after she posted cover songs on YouTube in 2013. In 2015, she released her first single and gained main roles in a Thai television series and movie. To date, she has released 2 EPs and starred in numerous series as well as movies. She was nominated in the Best Southeast Asia Act category in the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards. (wng)
