MONTGOMERY, Ala. —Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Friday introduced she changed her director of early childhood training over using a trainer coaching guide, written by a nationally acknowledged training group, that the Republican governor denounced as educating “woke concepts” due to language about inclusion and structural racism.

Barbara Cooper was compelled out as as head of the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education after Ivey expressed concern over the distribution of the guide to state-run pre-kindergartens.
