Jaipur: As the controversy round Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) continues to simmer, Olympian wrestler Geeta Phogat remarked that politicians shouldn’t be allowed to carry positions within the sports associations.
“If a former player is at the helm of a sporting federation, he/she will better understand the sportspersons and can help in their growth. There should be no political interference whatsoever. With PT Usha heading IOA, players’ sentiments will get priority and that’s a good sign,” the Haryana wrestler mentioned on the sidelines of the Bano Champion opening ceremony on Sunday.
Meanwhile, to develop a sports activities tradition in Rajasthan and to supply free skilled teaching to younger adults at semi-urban places, a three-day state-level match Bano Champion was inaugurated on the SMS Indoor Stadium. The programme had began with village and district-level competitions throughout 61 places within the state. The focus is on creating champions in athletics, soccer, throwball, volleyball and different video games of native choice. The programme is an AU Small Finance Bank initiative. tnn
