The festival of Bakrid is just around the corner and we cannot wait to begin the celebrations. One of the two most significant Muslim festivals, the other one being Eid Al-Fitr (also known as Meethi Eid), Bakrid or Eid-al-Adha this year is being celebrated on 31st July 2020 all over the world as per the date that Saudi Arabia has announced. However, it will be celebrated on 1st August 2020 in India as per the Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid.

Bakrid is traditionally known as the ‘Festival of the Sacrifice’, where Eid al-Adha literally translates to ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’ to honour the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The Islamic community typically sacrifices a goat on the day and the meat from the animal is divided into three parts. One is for the family, another is offered to the poor and the needy and the third part is reserved for friends and relatives.
