Barbour County Schools will operate remotely for all students today through Thursday due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Barbour County. According to a message posted to Facebook by Superintendent Jeff Woofter, three different classrooms in the county have had a positive case of coronavirus.

“Unfortunately, we have had some students and/or staff that have been tested out of our county and our health department has not received the results of those tests in a timely manner,” he said in the post. “Initially, we were just going to quarantine the classrooms with the positive tests. However, we have decided to exercise an abundance of caution and we will be going full remote for the next three days. By going remote for three days, that should help the health department catch up with all necessary contact tracing and will allow our health department to coordinate with other local health departments regarding any students or staff that has tested positive outside of Barbour County. It is our understanding that there is community spread.”

According to the post, all staff will report on Wednesday for cleaning their work areas. All sports practices and competitions will be postponed until Thursday.
