In a year full of cancelled movie plans, Black Widow‘s release date might be pushed further due to the pandemic. The Marvel film was reportedly scheduled to release on November 6 this year. The Scarlett Johansson starrer was the closest to release among Disney’s most anticipated upcoming MCU Phase 4 films like Thor: Love And Thunder and The Eternals. According to Variety, the studio might be reconsidering the film’s release and might change plans yet again.

New information about Black Widow‘s theatrical release suggests that it could be delayed. Meanwhile, Disney is also recalibrating release strategies for Pixar’s Soul. The animated film is currently due for a November 20, 2020 release date. But it now looks like the film could get a digital launch on Disney Plus. Disney Plus has done this before for Mulan. The live-action remake of Mulan released digitally and is available to watch on Disney Plus for an added fee over the subscription. Meanwhile. the film is out in select theatres as well. It is unclear whether Black Widow will take the same route.

Similar delays are happening over at Warner Bros. with the release of Wonder Woman 1984. The Gal Gadot starrer was initially set to release in March this year. The date was moved up to April and then October 2 before the studio settled upon a Christmas, December 25, 2020. This recent development only solidifies movie-goers’ concerns over theatrical releases with several movie theatres shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These concerns also envelop Dune’s upcoming premiere. With Tenet as the only example of a big-budget theatrical opening, the future of theatre-only releases looks rather bleak.

Black Widow marks Scarlett Johansson’s first solo outing in the MCU. The film starring Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and David Harbour is the origin story of Natasha Romanoff. So far we have character posters and a teaser trailer for Black Widow while we wait for more updates.
