SAULT STE. MARIE — Nathan Young scored three touchdowns and Vinny Howes scored one to propel the Gladstone Braves JVs to a24-6 victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils. It was a total team victory with every player getting in on the action that had coach Craig Ness smiling.

Young rushed for 195 yards, scoring TDs on runs of 42, 45 and 62 yards.

The Braves wasted no time in lighting up the scoreboard. Elliot Vitito set up Young on a 17-yard return.

Young broke loose on the very next play, running for 42 yards to the endzone.

Gladstone got the ball back again after a hit by Mitch Carwright on the Soo quarterback at midfield. Braves quarterback Brad Sundquist then hit Young on a short swing pass, raced downfield 45 yards for another TD.

After a fumble recovery by Gladstone’s Koysta Olsen had the Braves rolling again, an interception by the Sault ended up on the Braves’ five-yard line. The Blue Devils’ Dominic Cicco took the opportunity and earned the Sault’s first — and only — points of the game.

Howes also scored on a five-yard run just before halftime.

The second half was nearly all defense with Young scoring on a 62-yard run to make the final score 24-6.

Ethan Jensen, Jacob Perryman, Mitch Cartwright sparked the Braves’ line, while Howes, Young, Vitito and Luke Bracket kept the Braves interior in line.
