Kharge Vs Tharoor As Congress Set For Non-Gandhi Prez After 24 Years

Senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor will face an election for the post of party president on Monday and after 24 years in the Congress, someone from outside the Nehru-Gandhi family will be elected.

More than 9,000 representatives of Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) will elect the new president of the party through a secret ballot.

Voting would also take place at the AICC headquarters here and at over 65 polling booths across the country in an electoral contest that is taking place for the sixth time in the party’s 137-year history.

While party chief Sonia Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are expected to vote at the AICC headquarters, Rahul Gandhi will be voting at the Bharat Jodo Yatra campsite in Karnataka’s Sanganakallu in Ballari along with around 40 other Bharat Yatris who are PCC delegates.

Excise Policy ‘Scam’: CBI Summons Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia For Questioning

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday summoned Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia for questioning in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy, officials said as reported by news agency PTI.

The Delhi government has now withdrawn this policy.

The Federal Investigation Agency has asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader to appear at its headquarters at 11 am on Monday, officials said.

In a tweet on Sunday, Sisodia said: “CBI raid was conducted at my house for 14 hours, nothing came out. Searched my bank locker, but nothing came out in it. They did not find anything in my village. Now they have called me to CBI Headquarters at 11 am tomorrow. I will go and give my full cooperation. Satyameva Jayate.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned a number of people, including Sameer Mahendru, the owner of Indo Spirits, Amit Arora, the director of Buddy Retail Private Limited in Gurugram, and India Ahead News managing director Mootha Gautam, in connection with the case, the officials said.
