Campaigners Highlight Impact Of Covid On Entertainment

Cases normally used filled with equipment for gigs, festivals and theatre are on show in the city centre.

The Event Production Industry Covid-19 Working Group’s highlighting the impact lockdown’s had on the entertainment industry.


EPIC are making a pre-Budget submission, calling for financial supports to ensure people don’t leave the sector.


PR expert Kathryn Mason organized today’s event;


“Basically, around the 16th/17th of March I lost 85% of my business for the rest of the year.


“This year, there was a lot of events, not just in music ,but I was doing wellness events, I was doing food festivals and everything stopped.


“All the music artists that I was working with on their albums and their releases basically pulled the plug.


“So I sat there for probably about two weeks really feeling a lot of grief going, what do I do? 


“This was all I really knew”, she told us.



TDs from opposition parties all dropped in to support the #ThisIsWhoWeAre campaign.

Social Democrats rep Gary Gannon says they need the backing;


“It was hard fought to develop an events industry in Ireland, it wasn’t something that was there naturally.


“People went out, self-organized, got themselves together collectively.


“What it is today, we’re world renowned for putting on great concerts, great events, and we can’t lose that.


“That’s what we’re risking at the moment and we can’t be indifferent to it”, he told us.
