More details are emerging of the recent Nine Entertainment, Stan content streaming deal with NBC Universal with the network believed to have paid over $100 Million for a 2+1 short term deal for content according to industry sources.

ChannelNews understands that Fetch TV also teamed up with SBS and at one stage was bidding for the rights to the NBC content..

While Stan CEO Mike Sneesby referred to as “the biggest new slate of premium scripted content to come to market in recent times” he failed to reveal the excessive price that Stan paid for what is a seen as a short-term deal.

Earlier this week Nine Media which is part of the same Company were describing the deal as ‘long term’.

The deal also gives Stan subscribers access to content from NBCU’s streaming platform Peacock – such as Dreamworks Animation TV series produced for Peacock – and Sky Studios, including Brave New World, Lady Parts, Gangs of London, and I Hate Suzie.

Earlier this year Stan missed out on content from HBO and Warner Media, this went to Foxtel.

Stan has also lost access to Disney content.

In a statement issued to trade media Stan management said the expanded partnership means its access to international content partnerships with the world’s biggest studios is “unrivalled”.

Sneesby said. “This landmark deal reflects the strength of NBCUniversal’s portfolio and reinforces Stan’s commitment to bring the world’s best programming to Australians through our most significant output partnership to date.”

He has refused to say why Nine Entertainment paid such a premium price for what is seen by the industry at best a three year deal only.
