GUWAHATI: China has expressed strong objection to India’s decision to ban 118 more Chinese apps, spokesperson of the China’s ministry of commerce, Gao Feng said at a briefing on Thursday.
India on Wednesday banned 118 Chinese mobile apps, including PUBG, amid the standoff with China at the Line of Actual Control.
“Banned mobile apps prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity, defense of India and public order”, the information technology ministry notification said, adding that it has received several complaints of misuse of these apps for stealing and transmitting data of users in unauthorized way to servers located outside India. Earlier, India had banned 59 Chinese apps including the popular TikTok and WeChat.
A local chinese daily reported that Gao in his briefing accused India of abusing “national security” by imposing discriminate restrictions on Chinese companies and that India’s action violates relevant WTO rules.
“India’s action not only harms the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese investors and services providers but also harms the interests of Indian consumers while doing damage to India’s investment climate as an open economy,” Gao said according to the news agency.
“China-India economic and trade cooperation yields mutual benefits,” Gao said.
He added, “We hope that the Indian side will work with the Chinese side to maintain hard-won bilateral cooperation and development so as to build an open and fair business environment for international investors and services providers including Chinese companies.
