Clubhouse Adds High-Quality Audio Setting for Musicians

Audio-only app Clubhouse relies heavily on sound, so it’s no surprise the social network is introducing a new setting aimed at musicians.

Whether workshopping a song, tickling the ivories, or hosting a friendly jam session, Music Mode promises high-quality stereo sound. Users also have the option to tap into professional audio equipment like external USB microphones or mixing boards.

As with spatial audio, Music Mode will roll out first on iOS before heading to Android. To enable the new feature when speaking in a room, tap the three-dot menu and select Audio Quality > Music.

Listeners, meanwhile, can enjoy stereo audio with headphones, an external speaker, or straight from your phone. Clubhouse also added stereo support to Clips, “so any snippets you share from performers using Music Mode will also sound great,” according to a company blog announcement. Launched in September, Clips lets anyone grab a 30-second excerpt to share elsewhere on social media or save to their camera roll for posterity.

Since Clubhouse ditched beta (and its invite-only restrictions) in July, it has regularly added new features like Clips and Universal Search—a way for folks to find friends, discover clubs and events, and hunt for virtual rooms based on their interests. A Wave function was also introduced last month in an effort to help create “small, special moments.”
