Each week, I will use this space to tell you what I think are a few of the best bets heading into the weekend. I will also throw in an upset of the week, which will be a team that is at least a touchdown underdog that I am picking to win outright.

I will also give you picks on other games involving potential College Football Playoff teams. There may be scenarios for teams I am not listing that get them CFP consideration, but I do not consider them likely.

Last week was unusual. I went 2-1 to get back over .500 at 14-13 overall, but I also had a push. I rarely get one of those. The upset special also won, so it is now 3-6 straight up and 4-5 ATS. Time to keep a good thing going.

No. 3 Michigan State at Purdue

Featured Game | Purdue Boilermakers vs. Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State is coming off the program’s biggest win since 2015 and may show up a little flat at Purdue. The Boilermakers defense has been playing at a high level and recently started to generate some takeaways. Oddly, coach Jeff Brohm’s offense has been worse at home than on the road. This game figures to be played in the low 20s at most. Pick: Under (54)

No. 25 Pittsburgh at Duke

Featured Game | Duke Blue Devils vs. Pittsburgh Panthers

Pitt had been on quite a roll before losing at home to Miami last week. There is still plenty to play for, though. Duke is struggling through a miserable run in which it has lost four straight games, scoring no more than seven points three of them. The Panthers should be able to take out some frustrations on the Blue Devils. Pick: Pitt (-21)

Georgia State at Louisiana 

Featured Game | Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns vs. Georgia State Panthers

The Rajin’ Cajuns have been the Sun Belt’s best team regardless of what the polls say. They have been particularly good at home, winning their last three games by at least 28 points — one of which came over Appalachian State. Louisiana should cover this spread comfortably. Pick: Louisiana (-12)

Upset of the Week

Utah at Stanford

Featured Game | Stanford Cardinal vs. Utah Utes

Stanford has already picked up one huge home upset this season (vs. No. 4 Oregon). Utah, on the other hand, has not been good away from home, losing three of four. Something that makes you scratch your head seemingly happens every week in this league. Time for some Pac-12 After Dark. Pick: Stanford (+230)
