You know to expect Nightfall and Chattanooga Unite concerts at this point in the summer, but this week’s entertainment options add a gospel music hall of fame induction and two theater events.

* Nightfall: Alex Cuba, a Cuban-Canadian singer/songwriter and two-time Juno Award winner for World Music Album of the Year, will headline the virtual Nightfall concert Friday, July 31. Opening act Brandy Robinson, who sings original soul and rock ‘n’ roll, will open the show at 7 p.m., and Cuba will follow at 7:20 p.m. Watch on Nightfall’s Facebook page or on YouTube at Nightfall Virtual. * “1984”: Back Alley Productions will present virtual performances of this dystopian drama, based on George Orwell’s book of the same name, the next two weekends. This is the first show the company has presented since shutting down in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. The actors will be performing live on the Mars Theatre stage, 117 N. Chattanooga St. in LaFayette, Georgia. Shows will be streamed at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, July 31-Aug. 1 and Aug. 7-8. Tickets are $10. * Chattanooga Unite gets a do-over on Saturday, Aug. 1, for its rained-out concert from July 18, sliding into what was originally an open date in the series. The free event will feature Fantastic Confabulation at 7:15 p.m. and Nashville’s Radio Romance at 9. Learn more at www.ChattanoogaUnite.com.

* Gospel hall of fame: The Tri-State Gospel Music Association will induct 10 members into its hall of fame in ceremonies at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Parkway Baptist Temple, 65 Stuart Drive, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. The organization has inducted more than 200 members since its establishment in 2005.

This year’s honorees are Troy Burns, Buddy Burton, Tommy Fairchild, Howard Green, Ed Hill, David Maddox, Peggy Parker, Marlon Pendergrass, Willie Wynn and Charles Yates.

Will Dickerson, the organization’s CEO and chairman, said there will be no mass choir this year, but there will be congregational singing and quartet performances before commemorative medallions are presented to the honorees (or a family member for Hill and Parker, who are being recognized posthumously).

An offering will be taken to help cover expenses.

“We are not for profit,” Dickerson said. “All I want to do is break even. We’re not trying to make money off of this. We just want to honor singers and musicians, promoters, songwriters, anybody that has dedicated their life to Southern gospel music.”

The event will follow the church’s “personal choice” guidelines for masks: “If a person wants to wear one they can,” Dickerson said. “If they don’t, it’s not required.”

Seating will be restricted to every other pew, and the sanctuary is large enough to accommodate family groups who wish to sit apart from others for additional social distancing, he said.

* “Southern Fried Nuptials”: Tennessee Valley Theatre, 184 W. Jackson St., Spring City, Tennessee, will present this Osborne & Eppler comedy the next two weekends.
