Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and occasion leaders Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal in Delhi on Thursday night as efforts to forge an anti-BJP entrance forward of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls collect tempo.

Following the assembly at Kharge’s residence, Rahul Gandhi stated, “the process of uniting opposition has started; this is a beginning, all parties are committed towards forging unity.”

Interestingly, the assembly comes days after Pawar distanced himself from the Congress’s demand of a JPC probe into allegations levelled in opposition to the Adani Group by short-selling agency Hindenburg Research. Pawar stated he believes the Adani Group is being “targeted” by unknown entities whose motives he questioned.  However, he subsequently took a U-turn, saying he wouldn’t oppose a JPC for the sake of Opposition unity.

The assembly additionally comes a day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal met Kharge and Gandhi on the Congress president’s 10, Rajaji Marg residence. The discussions revolved round forging a united entrance to tackle the BJP.

Kharge, in the meantime, stated the opposition events have determined to unite and that they are going to discuss to all events. All events ought to come collectively to avoid wasting the nation, democracy and guarantee freedom of speech, he added.

Sharad Pawar, on his half, stated this was a starting and that discussions will likely be held with different events just like the TMC to carry them collectively.
