Centre to notify 1.2 MT of additional sugar exports this season

The Centre is likely to allow an additional 1.2 million tonnes (MT) of sugar exports in the current season ending September 2022 taking into account higher-than-anticipated domestic production, according to government sources. This additional quota would be over and above 10 MT of sugar exports allowed for the current 2021-22 season. Sources said a group of ministers approved the additional quota of sugar exports in a recent meeting. A notification in this regard will be issued soon.

Indian Oil Corporation sold petrol at a loss of Rs 10 per litre and diesel at Rs 14 a litre during April-June, leading to the firm reporting its first quarterly net loss in over two years, a report said. LeT militant killed in encounter in J-K’s Baramulla

One Lashkar-e-Taiba militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said. The militant was identified as Irshad Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Baramulla’s Pattan, they said. The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Binner area of the district on Saturday evening on the basis of information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

US: At least 25 killed in Kentucky floods

The floods in parts of eastern Kentucky have claimed the lives of atleast 25 people, including four children and are likely to increase as search and rescue operations are underway. “The death toll in flood-stricken parts of eastern Kentucky climbed to at least 25 and will almost certainly ‘get worse’ as first responders work to account for missing residents,” CNN reported citing the state’s governor Andy Beshear on Saturday.
