A letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Heath was to be sent to Conrad Weiser football parents Thursday night, informing them that a player on the team has tested positive for coronavirus.

An evaluation by the DOH determined that the football team did not need to shut down practice and that players and coaches did not need to quarantine, according to Weiser athletic director Billy Harrison.

“Specific circumstances did not warrant our players to quarantine (according to DOH standards),” Harrison said.

The Scouts were given the go-ahead by the DOH to play a scrimmage Saturday at Wyomissing.

Harrison said the Wyomissing School District administration has been notified of the situation.

Parents of the affected student-athlete contacted Conrad Weiser officials over the Labor Day weekend about a potential infection, and the school subsequently learned from the DOH that the player tested positive.

The student-athlete is being quarantined for 14 days.

Conrad Weiser students are learning virtually, so classes have not been affected.

Harrison said he is not aware of any other student-athletes at the school who have tested positive.

Conrad Weiser opens its football season Sept. 18 at Fleetwood.
