MANISTIQUE — The Calumet Copper Kings took care of enterprise right here Thursday evening, incomes their fourth consecutive MHSAA Division 3 regional volleyball championship in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-18) victory over the Roscommon Bucks.

Calumet (19-2) advances to the state quarterfinal match in Sault Ste. Marie the place it should face Traverse CIty St. Francis (20-3) Tuesday at 6 p.m. Roscommon completed 26-13.

Senior Caitlyn Strom supplied the Copper Kings with a pair of kills by way of double-blocks for a 16-14 lead halfway by way of the third set.

“They gave us a fight in sets two and three for sure,” Copper Kings coach Kate Bonacorsi mentioned. “We had a time-out when it got to 8-3 and told the girls ‘let’s try to beat them to 15’ and they did that. “They got a lot of offense and we’re mostly freshmen and sophomores,” Bucks coach Gabe Williams mentioned. “They have a lot of skill. The girls aren’t used to playing at that speed and hitting five balls into the net in the second set didn’t help. Once we figured things out, we started swinging and did all right. Then, some of the kids started tipping the ball. When we stopped swinging, things didn’t go as well.”

Calumet began its comeback on a kill by Strom whose block tied the rating at 12, setting the stage for a powerful end.

In the second body, Roscommon led 17-16 earlier than a kill a by junior Allison Bjorn tied the rating.

The Copper Kings gained a 20-17 lead on one other kill by Bjorn.
