JOHOR BARU: A group of friends’ late-night outing at an entertainment outlet here was shut down by the police for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the National Recovery Plan.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said an Op Noda/Op Cahaya raid was carried out at the premises in Taman Molek here at around 12.30am on Thursday (Nov 4).

“We found a group of 14 customers sitting at the same table in the outlet.

“The eight men and seven women, including the male outlet manager, were inspected where we found that the outlet did not have an entertainment licence.

“The 27-year-old outlet manager was handed a compound notice for RM25,000 while the 14 customers were each issued a RM5,000 compound notice, bringing the total to RM95,000,” he said, adding that they were aged from 18 to 42 years old.

The case was investigated under Rule 6(2) of the Johor Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000.

The compound notices were issued under Rule 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2001, he said.

Supt Mohd Sohaimi added that police seized some entertainment equipment from the premises such as a mixing console, speakers, microphone sets and sales receipts.

He said police would continue conducting operations to monitor the entertainment centres under the Seri Alam police jurisdiction.

“Firm action will be taken against individuals and those who try to operate entertainment outlets when it is still not permitted by the law,” he added.
