COVID-19 Updates: Worldwide, the number of cases stand at 16,849,365 (File)

New Delhi:

The Centre on Wednesday issued Unlock 3 guidelines, allowing reopening of gyms and revoking night curfew from August. But restrictions remained in place in all other spheres that involve large gatherings – be it educational institutions, public parks or cinema halls.

According to guidelines, activities in the containment zones shall be monitored strictly by state and Union Territory authorities and the guidelines relating to containment measure in these zones shall be strictly implemented.

The announcement came as India logged more than 15 lakh coronavirus cases and the daily spike in cases grew close to 50,000.

Meanwhile, US deaths from the novel coronavirus surpassed 150,000 on Wednesday, a number higher than in any other country and nearly a quarter of the world’s total, according to a Reuters tally.

Worldwide, the number of coronavirus cases stand at 16,849,365 while the death count at 662,738.

Coronavirus news: 5 wedding attendees test positive for COVID-19 in Kerala

At least five people who attended a wedding at Trikaripurnear have tested positive for COVID-19 with the authorities deciding to screen all participants.

Kasaragod District Medical authorities on Wednesday confirmed the development and said efforts were to trace all the contacts.

Kasaragod reported 49 positive cases on Wednesday out of which 32 had contracted the virus through contact, PTI reported. 

Coronavirus news: Romania imposes new restrictions after virus surge

Romania on Wednesday adopted new measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus, including shortening working hours for bars and restaurants and mandatory face masks in outdoor crowded spaces, after a surge in cases.

In the past eight days, the number of infections exceeded 1,000 new daily cases in Romania, bringing the total to over 48,000. The country also reported 2,269 deaths so far.

Masks are already mandatory in enclosed public spaces while restaurants and pubs can serve their clients only outdoors with no more than four people at the same table, AFP reported.

Coronavirus news: Over 1,500 arrested in Kolkata for defying total lockdown

More than 1,500 people were arrested in Kolkata on Wednesday for defying the total lockdown imposed to check the spread of coronavirus, police said.

At least 1,054 people were held for violating restriction orders, while others were prosecuted for not wearing masks, a police officer said.

A total of 38 people were apprehended for spitting in public, he said.

Besides, police also impounded 44 vehicles, PTI reported. 

Coronavirus news: 41 more COVID-19 patients die in Bengal; 2,294 fresh cases detected

The COVID-19 death count in West Bengal rose to 1,490 on Wednesday after 41 people died due to the disease, the state health department said in a bulletin.

A total of 2,294 fresh cases of coronavirus infection pushed the state’s tally to 65,258, PTI reported. 

Coronavirus news: Delhi reports 1,035 new COVID-19 cases; hotels delinked from hospitals as situation appears improving

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced delinking of hotels from hospitals in view of the improving COVID-19 situation in the national capital, but directed officers to ensure strict compliance with existing testing guidelines.

Meanwhile, the city reported 1,035 coronavirus cases on Wednesday, taking the total count to 1,33,310, while the death count rose by 26 to reach 3,907, PTI reported.
