India Coronavirus Live News Updates:

In the 24 hours ending 9 am Tuesday, India detected 70,589 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking its tally beyond 61 lakh. Of the country’s 61,45,292 cases, 9,47,576 people are undergoing treatment, 51,01,398 people have been discharged and 96,318 people have died.

Maharashtra has the highest number of cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday told his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen that Covid-19 had shown that it was risky for global supply chains to be highly dependent on any single source. “We are working together with Japan and Australia for supply-chain diversification and resilience. Other like-minded countries can also join this effort,” he said, during their virtual interaction. PM Modi’s comments come at a time when more and more countries are moving away from their dependence on China.

In other news, a three-member team of central government officials have submitted a report on the Covid-19 situation in Tripura. The lone designated Covid-19 hospital in the state has unutilised ventilators, dysfunctional X-ray and CT scan machines, no audit of deaths and non-existent waste management, the team has found.
