Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said five previously reported cases have now recovered.

That brings the total number of active cases in New Zealand to 22.

New Zealand’s total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 remains at 1217, which is the number reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

It has been 95 days since the last case of Covid-19 was acquired locally from an unknown source, and there is no one in New Zealand receiving hospital-level care for Covid, Dr Bloomfield said.

There were 1608 tests processed yesterday, 383 swabs were taken in managed isolation and quarantine facilities.

Dr Bloomfield said the message from the World Health Organisation (WHO) was very clear and came down to basic health measures.

He said more testing was needed to get reassurance that Covid-19 was not in the community.

“Everyone with relevant symptoms should be getting a test.”

He reiterated that everyone who was unwell should stay home from school and work until they are well.

Health Minister Chris Hipkins said there had been a gradual uptick in the number of tests, but the government would continue to use pop-up clinics when not enough tests are being done at GPs.

Dr Bloomfield said contacts of cases were being tested for antibodies to see if they had the virus in the past.

Hipkins said they were aiming to test people who worked at the border and in managed isolation facilities every two or three weeks

Yesterday, there were two new cases in managed isolation.

A clinic in South Auckland is experiencing another flurry of people being tested for Covid-19 after a man who had been to the area later tested positive in South Korea.

Meanwhile, planned repatriation flights to return Indians stranded here have been delayed as the Covid-19 All of Government Response Group works out whether or not to allow New Zealanders trapped there to catch a return flight back.
