CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department are launching a brand new unit to patrol leisure districts on the Near West Side.
Block Club Chicago stories that six officers and a sergeant from the twelfth district will concentrate on components of West Loop, West Town and Pilsen, together with Greektown, components of Taylor Street, the University of Illinois Chicago and a part of Division Street.
The unit can be created to police security within the entrainment districts following a string of shootings, armed robberies, and break in’s. Also, the brand new unit will monitor late night time loitering and to make sure venues adjust to their pump place of amusement licenses.
The assigned officers will reportedly work 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. It’s unclear right now what days of the week the patrol will work.
Sgt. Mike Karczewski, enterprise, licensing, and particular occasions supervisor for the twelfth District, instructed Block Club Chicago they hope to have the unit up and working for the following 30 to 90 days.
