Imtiaz Ali’s subsequent movie, Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra shall be releasing on April 12 on Netflix. Dosanh takes on the starring function of Amar Singh Chamkila, whereas Parineeti Chopra will star as Amarjot, Chamkila’s spouse and singing accomplice.

The date announcement for the musical biopic was made on Netflix India’s social media profiles. They wrote on Instagram, “Maahaul bann jaata tha jab vo chedta tha saaz, kuch aisa hi tha Chamkila ka Andaaz @imtiazaliofficial ’s #AmarSinghChamkila arriving on 12 April, only on Netflix!”
Director Ali’s final movie, Love Aaj Kal, was launched in 2020. Since then, the filmmaker has been busy with the online sequence She and Dr Arora. Based on the lifetime of the slain Punjabi singer, Amar Singh Chamkila has the music of AR Rahman and Irshad Kamil writing the lyrics. The final time the trio had collaborated was in 2015 on Ali’s movie Tamasha starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.
About the movie Amar Singh Chamkila
Ali has written the script of the movie along with his brother Sajid Ali. It tells the untold true story of Punjab’s unique rockstar of the plenty, who was often called the ‘Elvis Presley’ of the state and the best record-selling artist of his time. Amar Singh Chamkila was shot in actual places and focuses on Punjabi people music, particularly the country akhadaas (reside music performances in villages) which was Chamkila’s forte. Stars Dosanjh and Chopra have sung reside in these akhadaa parts which have been recorded reside on location.
The singer Chamkila and his spouse Amarjot have been assassinated, together with two members of their band on March 8, 1988. The homicide case stays unsolved. He was solely 27 years previous.
