The District 3 Committee clarified the parameters for the football playoffs Wednesday, announcing that teams must schedule at least five games and must play at least four in order to be eligible for a postseason berth.

That could be problematic for Berks Catholic, which currently has just four league games scheduled. The Saints saw several scheduled opponents drop out when their school or league suspended fall sports.

Berks Catholic currently don’t have a game scheduled until Oct. 2; it is actively looking for opponents for Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 9.

All games played by Oct. 26 will count in the power ratings, which determine the district qualifiers and seeds.

Schools that qualify, then suspend their season due to COVID-19 after the Oct. 26 deadline, will not be replaced; their inability to play will be considered a forfeit.

(Games not played during the regular season due to COVID-19 issues will be considered no contest.)

Schools that do not qualify for the tournament may continue to play until Nov. 28, with a maximum of 10 games.

Four teams qualify in the top four classes, two apiece in the two smallest classes.

The Class 3A and 6A semifinals are Oct. 30 or 31; the championships are Nov. 6 or 7.

The Class 4A and 5A semifinals are Nov. 6 or 7; the championships re Nov. 13 or 14.

The Class 1A championship is Oct. 30 or 31; the 2A championship is Nov. 6 or 7.

All games will be played at the site of the higher seed.
