NEW DELHI: The much-awaited college of know-how at Delhi University is more likely to start taking college students from the upcoming educational session as approvals are actually in place, senior college officers stated.
In December 2021, DU‘s statutory physique cleared the establishing of three engineering programs – BTech in pc science, electronics and communication, and electrical engineering. However, as a result of pending approvals on manpower, funds and different elements, the college had been unable to roll out the programmes.
Speaking to TOI, vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh stated the central authorities has sanctioned each educating and non-teaching positions.
“The government has approved the posts that the university had sought. Around 72 teaching posts and 48 non-teaching posts have been sanctioned by the Centre. Admissions to the three programmes will start from the upcoming academic session as all the required approvals, including those from the University Grants Commission, are now in place,” Singh stated.
Singh added that such sanctions on posts have come after almost 20 years.
Admission to the three programmes might be based mostly on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains.
“There will be around 120 students per engineering branch, divided into two sections. While the land for construction of the new building for the faculty of technology has been finalised, construction has not begun yet. So initially we will look for an alternative building where the classes can be held and then in a couple of years, it will be moved to the new building in North Campus itself,” Singh stated.
A senior college official added, “The university is in the process of introducing several new programmes and centres but the faculty of technology is a priority. The building plans, layout structure and location for the new building have all been approved. We are waiting for financial assistance from the HEFA (Higher Education Funding Agency) and are hopeful that a number of things will materialise by May. The target set for completing the new building is two years.”
The college can also be mulling establishing a brand new medical school aside from a number of different programmes like a five-year LLB programme.
DU registrar Vikas Gupta stated, “While the Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute is already there, we are exploring the possibility of opening a new medical college under DU. This is at a nascent stage. Initially, discussions need to be held with the Centre and especially the ministry of health.”
While the report for the five-year LLB programme is more likely to be submitted to the college subsequent week, Singh stated the varsity will assemble regulation campuses at Surajmal Vihar and Dwarka sooner or later.
